Even with the forecast for good weather, I don't think they expected it to be so hot. There wasn't really anywhere to sit in the shade, so most people got something to eat or drink and sat in the shade of the food vendors vans. It was quite funny really. It was way too hot in the tents in the morning, so we got up disgustingly early (8am or something) to get some breakfast. We couldn't be bothered bringing cookers and that so we just bought stuff from stalls.... I got a banana and nutella crepe.. NOM! And then we went and sponged some free porridge and shade with the Hare Krishnas. I feel mean stealing their shade, but to be honest, they said if I repeated that 'Hare rama rama' thing my life would be sublime... and it's not, so meh!
Next we kind of went for a wander around Green Fields/Arcadia/Bella's Field and looked at some crazy stuff there. In one of the fields (the circus field?) they have heaps of tightropes and stuff... so awesome. At about 2pm or something we went to see our first proper band of the festival:

Bombay Bicycle Club:
I love this band, I saw them in April in Bournemouth, but this gig was heaps better. They played the John Peel tent, and were so cool. It's strange to think they're younger than me and on their first album, they're sooo much better than a lot of bands around. My favourite part was when they got a reggae kind of drum band for 'Always Like This'.. it was genius! I saw them soundcheck the drums but I thought it was just intergig entertainment. We were supposed to see Tegan & Sara cos my sister said to, but we forgot to get there in time... the trick is to go just as the previous act finishes, because that's when everyone leaves and you can get to the front... sorry Ellen, haha.

Kele:
Straight after BBC at John Peel, we saw Kele, from Bloc Party. It was good for what it was... but a lot of it sounded too similar to his more recent work with Bloc Party. I also found the girl in the bikini on stage doing the synths etc a tad annoying... like... fuck off annoying haha. And Kele's dancing was a tad freakish.. kind of like Bernard Sumner. New Bloc Party album, please Kele.

Meursault:
Next we headed to the BBC Introducing Tent for some Scottishy goodness in the form of Meursault. They were introduced by Huw Stephens, which was exthiting for me haha. It's my fourth time seeing them, and I still haven't seen them perform a full set... and I didn't this time either... 25 minutes is far too short. It's good to hear some new album tracks after having listened to it a few times. I can't believe there's not more Scottish bands on BBC intro.. maybe they should have omitted P Money and put on some more :P. After the set a guy from the BBC was stood outside with a board saying "Today I was introduced to Meursault" and you had your photo taken with it for... something... Vinny got his taken, and then the guy interviewed us both. I talked a load of wank, I hope it never made it to the radio.

Dizzee Rascal:
I only realised afterwards that in seeing Dizzee I missed Hot Chip :( But I'd see Hot Chip at their own gig, and I doubt I'd ever see Dizzee so that's ok. He played the Pyramid before Gorillaz and was quite good. He played 'Jus A Rascal' WHAT'S ME MUTHAFUCKIN' NAAAAAMEE hahahaha. Sorry. I love it. He played most of the hits, Holiday, Bonkers, Dance Wiv Me, You've Got The Dirtee Love... with, surprise surprise... Florence. Still, it was pretty cool. It was a good warm up to Gorillaz, and to be honest, one of the better Pyramid non-Headliners of the week.

Ah Gorillaz, how I love thee. The only Pyramid Headliner I saw this time. They were brilliant. So suited to Glastonbury. It was like a carnival'y Glastonbury'y vibe on stage. The big screens showed little films alongside the music (including a cameo by Bruce Willis, amongst others) Damon was on top form, leaping around for most of the time he wasn't hidden at the back. I loved the two guitarists (I'm not good on details of who they are.. I'll check later) they strode around exuding coolness. Special guests included De La Soul, Mos Def, Mick Jones and Paul Simonon of The Clash, Bobby Womack, Lou Reed, Snoop Dogg, Mark E. Smith, Yukimi Nagano of Little Dragon, Hypnotic Brass Ensemble and the Lebanese National Orchestra for Oriental Arabic Music. Wowzers. I managed front and centre OF THE PYRAMID STAGE! Abot 4 rows from the front. It was proper MENTAL. Awesome. But not crushy mental. Just close! I looooved it when Snoop Dogg came on for the final track... I don't like him at all, but I squealed with glee like a 13 year old at a Hanson concert in 1997.

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://hannahmwalsh.blogspot.com/2010/07/glastonbury-2010-friday.html' title='Glastonbury 2010 -
